For some reason, I have been granted with Saturdays off for the last few months. I am not entirely sure whether this is a gift bestowed upon me from the restaurant gods that be (and that I also secretly hate) or if it's a test devised to determine whether or not I can amuse myself like a normal person for an entire day.
So tonight I got drunk, supposedly in celebration of my kickass new job. (Really, the best excuse for drunkenness since Mike's bday earlier this month.) And bought Indian food for dinner, which was pretty much the most delicious thing I've eaten for quite some time.
Huzzah!

hau'oli pakoa
Blah, I have not done anything impressive with my day off. Yes, there was a minor training meeting at Auntie Pasto's, but 1)it was mandatory and 2) there was wine involved so I feel as though that negates the productiveness of an entire two hour meeting. This place is definitely no Buca. The owner supplied us with a bottle and a half of Cupcake chardonnay for 5 people. Oh, and deliciously cheesy pasta concoctions for lunch.
My gift of a Friday night off last night lacked progress as well. (God bless the two sane Buca managers for saving me from almost certain employment hell this week.) Actually, that might just be my interpretation since I did not fulfill exactly what I had planned. I have to keep reminding myself life does not follow my plan. Obviously, ha. And there is something to be said for relaxation after working doubles. Plus, I picked up a morning shift tomorrow, making it an Easter Sunday double. Gross, but productive indeed. And that relieves me from being too hard on myself on Monday. Perfect.
I'm going to be old and responsible and head to bed now so I can afford to wake up in time to get coffee and breakfast early. Go me.
By the way, it's officially Easter. Hau'oli Pakoa.

no beach for me
I swear, every day I have off the weather is total crap. And I'm really not exaggerating. Each week there's a handful of perfect beach days. Then Monday rolls around and, lo and behold, it's completely overcast. I would rather it pour rain if it's going to be this dreary. At least then I could get a chilly, curl up and watch movies sort of day. This is just dull and pointless, as is seen in the pic of my front yard below.

Gross.
Normally I aspire to hit the beach on days off, especially since the boyfriend and I acquired some moderately priced snorkel equipment last month. It may be near impossible to get him out of bed in time to enjoy the beaches of Lanikai, but I sure as hell am not going to let $50 of aquatic sporting gear go to waste! But alas, the sun does not want to cooperate.
Today I planned a biking excursion. I started the South Beach Diet once again on Friday and, in an effort to encourage my formerly somewhat svelte self to return, I decided some exercise was necessary. The beach was out already and I have a strong aversion to gyms, so the logical choice was an intense bike ride around the area. And then I rescued my bike from the garage. Apparently the garage was not sheltered enough for the bicicleta. The rust and creakiness factors were enough for me to call it quits. While I would have trusted it enough to get me to Blockbuster in town, I was not about to drive into the unknown only to have to drag the thing back had the chain snapped.
So my day remained relatively exercise-free. I did, however, make myself a fantastic SB friendly Indian inspired meal.

Mmm tomato beef curry with mushrooms and zucchini.

an offer i couldn't refuse
The easiest way to get back into the habit of blogging is food. Moving to Kailua brings with it a broad spectrum of culinary choices. I still miss my ramen concubine at McCully Shopping Center and have yet to find comparable charsiu here, but the area is not void of tasty meals altogether.
Last Monday I took a day off for myself. This differs from plain old taking a day off. I needed a "me" day. Some time for myself, to think or not worry about someone else and what they want to do. It's not as selfish as it sounds, just more of a self-preservation tactic. Everyone should have their own alone time.
I went to lunch at Crepes No Ka 'Oi. Originally I wanted to try Boots and Kimo, since I've heard so many people rave about it, but they were going to close in half an hour and there was still a line. Crepes No Ka 'Oi is just a few doors down. I walked by and recalled reading about them. After perusing the menu I decided to give it a go.

I ordered The Godfather, which was basically a mozzarella caprese inside a crepe.

Look at all that balsamic goodness oozing out! I was pretty impressed with the size of it too. The menu wasn't too extensive, but then considering you're dealing solely with crepes I suppose it wasn't bound to be a novel. There was one involving Nutella that sounded fabulous had I been in a dessert mood. And a berry one that was tempting as well. I will definitely be back.

Oooo and they had this nifty light fixtures that I want.
